new york city, at new york university medical center these are the first pictures we were just showing you. where a power outage forced the evacuation of critical care patients. let's go to nbc news correspondent rehema ellis who's there now. what is the latest from there, rehe rehema? >> reporter: the evacuation is continuing, chris. as you point out, 215 patients, some pediatric patients and critical care patients who had to be evacuated when the backup generator fail. we're on 29th street and 1st avenue. everything from here on down has been in the dark for many hours tonight as a result of the storm. we understand there was a transformer fire at a con edison station in lower manhattan which could have knocked everybody out of power. it's important to point out there has been no chaos, no panic. it has been a very orderly transfer of patients here from the nyu university medical center. they also had intermittent telephone service and they've been letting people know that they have not been able to contact the loved ones of these patients as they're leaving. but they're leaving that

of the evidence against his client for the first time sunday... including what police found inside the calumet city home where clark and chiodo lived. according to court records investigators discovered blood throughout the home. outside they found garbage cans filled with a blood stained rug and bath mat, a womans skirt, broken furniture and a plastic shower curtain covered in blood. evidence they used to charge clark with chiodos murder, even though the 41 year olds body hasnt been found. chiodo disappeared last weekend, and while clark told *investigators he hadnt seen her since a fight last sunday, he allegedly told his brother on the phone after his arrest that he woke up in bed to find chiodo in his arms covered in blood and he tried to give her mouth to mouth. the court records also say he discussed telling the police where the body was located as long as he could 'get a deal'. if anyone can do anything to have him tell us where he put her. we just want to get her back here. her family needs to have closure. we need to have closure. chiodos family members, who came to court sunday, d

hours since the damaged crane first started dangling 90 stories in new york city. these are live pictures you are looking at. we have obtained this video showing yesterday's collapse at the construction site of the luxury 157 skyscraper as it's called. she has got more of what's going to on. what do we know about the safety record of this crane that seems to be hanging there? >> it is hanging precariously. directly behind me and it's about a thousand feet off the ground. you can imagine how terrified people on the ground were. having said that, cnn has learned that this very construction site has experienced some problems in the past. the city issued at least two stop work orders in the past couple of months. one for leaking hydraulic fluid and another for defective wire rope and an improper runway platform. they were eventually fully rescinded but it took about a week in each case for that to happen. they did confirm that the documents are correct. >> what did you think when you heard the loud boom? >> i thought it was a gunshot or a bomb. i immediately went to the window. when

is going up in a helicopter and we're going to get our first pictures here this afternoon. we've had reports from point pleasant beach where the beach was essentially taken and spread through the town and then we've heard from atlantic city and seen where the boardwalk was ripped up and so forth. in the middle is long beach island and i haven't seen any reports from long beach island. what happened there is they were on the side of the storm where the water was pushed from the ocean in across the shoreline. farther south, down into maryland and delaware, much of the coast where they had some damage, they didn't have that hard push of water at high tide like good parts of the jersey shore did. so we're very, very fearful there and also on the south shore of long island. we also haven't seen that. so there is much more to learn about just those two areas let alone other areas spread around the northeast. >> and as you point out, the high winds, continuing high winds, and gusts are going to make it even that much longer before we get power restored to all of those people. >> that's righ

still throughout the heartland here. upper 60s in kansas city. that blue, you can see that there. that first front is going to push into the appalachians there on wednesday. so cool air really starting to filter in. you can see that cool air moving into the great lakes. and now chicago, lower 50s, that's it for the daytime highs. not going to see the cold air get as far south as the last push did over the weekend. but you'll notice it around the great lakes. thursday, another front going to bring more cool air coming in from canada. high only at 51 in minneapolis on thursday. and chicago, back into the 60s on thursday. but that's not going to last as that cool air moves through and moves in. you have high pressure replacing that. now back down into the 50s in chicago. chance for rain in the northeast. the southwest, especially the mountains, with a chance of showers. the pacific northwest, after a huge dry stretch will be an increasing chance for rain. and the next system taking shape in the middle part of the country. going to see a chance for rain, mild air ahead of the system.
